Kathleen R. Coenson, LCSW, CSoC Director, Magellan Health in Louisiana

Having joined Magellan in January 2012 as the Adult System Administrator and Vice President of System Transformation for the Louisiana Behavioral Health Partnership in Louisiana, Ms. Coenson now oversees Magellan’s administration of the Coordinated System of Care (CSoC) program in the state.  A licensed Clinical Social Worker in Minnesota and Louisiana, Ms. Coenson has more than 30 years of administrative and clinical experience in all aspects of behavioral health care management.

Prior to joining Magellan, Ms. Coenson served as a medical social worker at several hospitals in Indiana and Minnesota and a case manager in Surrey, England.  She has also worked with Cigna Behavioral Health in Minnesota as Inpatient Care Manager, at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System in New Orleans as a Social Worker in the suicide prevention program and as Director of Social Services and Outpatient Services at the Community Care Hospital and Community Care Counseling Center in New Orleans. 

Ms. Coenson has extensive years of practice in outpatient and inpatient medical and psychiatric hospital settings, including for profit, not for profit and governmental agencies.  She has considerable knowledge and experience in utilization review, insurance, third party payers, billing, appeal/denial processes and managed care. 

Kathleen Coenson received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Social Work from Indiana University and was an adjunct faculty member at the Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans.

Patricia A. Barnes, M.D., CSoC Medical Director, Magellan Health in Louisiana

The Louisiana Coordinated System of Care is very excited to have Dr. Patricia Barnes on our leadership team.  Dr. Barnes has worked at Magellan for the last 3 years as physician advisor reviewer and now serves as Magellan’s Medical Director for the CSoC Program.

Dr. Barnes was born and raised in Oklahoma where she attended college and medical school.  She moved to Louisiana to train in psychiatry/child psychiatry at Tulane University in New Orleans and subsequently obtained board certifications in general and child psychiatry.  Dr. Barnes has worked in public psychiatry as a unit medical director at New Orleans Adolescent Hospital and then at Capital Area Human Services District in outpatient child psychiatry.   

Dr. Barnes brings a wealth of knowledge in child psychiatry, and she understands the opportunities and challenges which face us as we improve behavioral health services in Louisiana.  She is the proud mother and grandmother of 2 grown daughters and 4 grandchildren.
